Hon. Prof. Richard A. Bartle, BSc(I) PhD FRSA FBCS SFHEA is Professor of Computer Game Design at the University of Essex. As a student, he co-wrote the progenitor of today’s massively-multiplayer online role-playing games, in so doing starting what is now a $30bn-a-year industry. For this, he has been recognised numerous times by the games industry, and was the first recipient of the prestigious Game Developers Choice award of Online Game Legend. The author of numerous books, he is an influential writer on all aspects of online game design.
His interests extend to all aspects of world creation and design, and to visiting those worlds through story as well as through games.
