Steve Matthews was born in the UK in 1953, migrating to Australia in 1985. At the age of 55 he sold his business interests to fulfill a lifetime’s ambition to write professionally. Since then Steve’s acclaimed children’s books have been published in Australia, UK, Canada and the USA and his work in children’s literacy at home and abroad has been acknowledged in the Australian State Parliament.
The Skinny Girl (Highlight Publishing) was Steve’s first novel for adults. Launched by the NSW Police Minister and endorsed by several high-profile celebrities and politicians, it dealt with the difficult subject of domestic abuse. This was followed by the best-selling Historical Fiction trilogy (Big Sky Publishing), Hitler’s Brothel (2020) Hitler’s Assassins (2021) and Hitler’s Resurrection (2022). The series has been translated into Italian, Hungarian, Czec and Polish and world audio rights have been acquired by Wavesound (Audible). Ted Watts’ Diary (Big Sky Publishing) followed in 2023, a WW1 love story. 2024 sees the beginning of a new series, The Spencer Investigations, dealing with crime and social injustice.
Steve has now been published in 9 countries and 5 languages and mainly writes about the strength of women during adversity and injustice. He works from a 100 year old cottage in the grounds of the farm he shares with his wife Diane, his dog Harry and two beautiful donkeys, 70km outside Sydney.
